The Journey

The Journey is a series that was documented in Japan, during the time that I studied and lived there. My focus of the series was the word “Journey” and the many ways in which I encountered and was confronted with the word, on my journey.

The Journey

Contrary to the intentional and calm culture Japan is known for, what I observed in my time in Japan was that most of the people I came across were constantly in a rush to go nowhere. They were, as I called it “Lost on a journey”, and at the time I could relate to that.

The Isolation

Being “isolated in company” was the default state of a lot of the Japanese people I met, and the feeling that Japan gave me in general, not knowing that it was also a reflection of my own internal state at the time.

The Wait

The everlasting suspense of something new, the hunger for change and a glimpse of hopeful light was what I hoped to capture. I believed back then that I was revealing the current state and fabric of modern day Japanese culture, or did I just capture a reflection of myself.
